Mahatama Gandhi.. what comes's to your mind first.. father of nation..freedom fighter..and now you will start to compare him with other freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, ...
I have immense respect for all our great leaders, they were a breed par excellence.
One quite strange phenomena I have noted though :
Young generation will support Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose...
and Old generation would support Gandhiji more.. and all over the world other great leaders will talk a lot about Gandhiji. Even Einstein, Nelson Mandela.. have talked a lot about Gandhiji and respected him a lot.
So why not us.. this thought had puzzled me a lot of times..
And then I thought of researching about him. I read many books like
Experiments with Truth
Mahatama Gandhi : Autobiograph
Bharat Ek Khoj..etc
Some literatures written by Einstein, Nelson Mandela, freedom movement, etc
As i read those, I got to know the greatness of Mahatama Gandhi..
Mahatama Gandhi was not only freedom fighter..he fought for all the things which meant freedom, not only getting rid of British Raj. How many of our past leaders have fought for
* Untouchables
* Farmers
*How many have worked with Leprosy patients ? We even fear going near them.
*..
He was at a complete service to humanity.
During those times Un-touchability was a big scar on our society. Some sections of the society didn't let some sections to even drink water from wells? they blocked their access to temples ? my dear what use is getting freedom if you aren't free from all these ?? and how many have fought for their cause ? wasn't getting rid of these necessary for our society ?? its still prevalent around us ..
I respect Gandhiji for the service he did for the humanity. He wasn't only a freedom fighter. He was fighter for all the wrongs in our society. And the way he carried out speaks volumes about his strength.
==================
This is what Einstein and Martin Luther King said about Gandhiji (http://www.indianembassy.org/amb/amb_gandhi_houston_04.htm)
Albert Einstein on Gandhi: "Generations to come, it may be, will scarce believe that such one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth".
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Gandhi: "……..If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought, acted and inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony………….."
The above were great people, and if they have immense respect for Gandhiji, then there must be something.

I can go on and on and on...
I would say to the today's generation that read about your leaders, read about their work, and then make your views. The problem today is we don't spend time enough to know the facts, and we go by what people say. We don't have our own views.
to be contd..
